On Tuesday itself, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the bill in the House. The special thing is that for the first time in Parliament, division took place through electronic voting.
Meghwal on Tuesday asked the Parliament to introduce the ‘Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024’ and the related ‘Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024’, providing for simultaneous holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the country. Kept in the lower house.
The process of voting for discussion or passage of One Nation One Election has been completed. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier said in the House that this bill can also be sent to the parliamentary committee for debate. He said, ‘When One Nation One Election came before the Cabinet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that it should be sent to the Joint Committee of Parliament. This should be discussed in detail at every level.
The joint committee will be formed on a proportional basis according to the number of MPs from different parties. In this regard, an official said on Monday that being the largest party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will get the chairmanship of the committee and many of its members will join it.
Objection to EVM here also
It is reported that 269 are in favor and 198 are against the bill. The special thing is that even in the House, members have expressed objection on electronic voting, on which Home Minister Shah has said to give slip. He has said that if there is any objection to the voting, then the slip should be given. Birla also said that if any member feels that voting has been done wrong, he can modify the vote through a slip.
There will be time for discussion
Apart from Shah, Birla has also said that the bill will be discussed in detail. According to media reports, he said that the Minister has said that there will be detailed discussion during the JPC and members from all parties will be present. He has also made it clear that when the bill comes, there will be full time for discussion and the discussion will be held for as long as the members want.
